I'm not sure of what's being said here, but I'll just throw in my opinion anyway.

American music - ALL of it - is a group effort. NO single race or nationality could have done it alone. If I had to give credit to the smallest group of people...I would say the Africans and Anglo-Saxons (England, Ireland, Scotland) have to get the most credit. Then as music developed, in came the aerians (Germany, Austria) with the classical movement. Then there was Spain and Mexico....Jamaica...

But...pardon my anger...I don't give a d**n. I would love to see a day when even the mention of race and nationality is banned. It's not important. And when AMERICAN music is being mentioned...that's ALL of us. If you're born in the U.S., you are an American. Period. Not African American, not Italian American, not Irish American. This is a MAJOR issue. We are all one race. The human race. But let's at least all call ourselves "Americans".

I KNOW I'm off-topic this time. This is directed at anyone here. As a matter of fact, I haven't even read all of the posts yet. It just reminded me of something I've been meaning to say.

We just have so many things to divide us. It's sickening. Right down to political parties, regional prejudices (yankee, hick)...

I don't get it.

Well it comes as NO suprise to me when anyone says they don't "get" the connection between blues and punk. I have had that argument with more folks than I care to admitt. Simple fact is...without blues, punk never would have happened. Much of punk, (espescialy early punk) is a emulation of Son House licks and attacks. The forcefullness used by Son to drive his blues up out of him was and still is a huge influence on punk.

I know that I "discovered" Blues and Punk the same year and the punks didnīt like my Albert King style solos at all! ;D

The band I got now sounds (at least to me) like punkrockers trying to play Blues and R `nīB and Funk or something...Obviously Iīve learned nothing over the years... :)

I dig what you're sayin pEr. I spose I didn't realy make clear my reference to the Blues/Punk relationship.

It has been my experience that said relationship is generaly between Early Blues and Street Punk.
The whole punk fandome as well as genre is real difficult to decifer. Exodus for example is NOT punk to me...none the less it is to many others. Iggy, MC5, Spencer, DK, GG Allen are all as punk as it gets to me. To many other punk fans those are soft and not hard core enough...except in the case of GG Allen....he's just too gross for many folks. :-[

i aint tryin to say one from the other, myself...just stating the decernable differences making punk hard to decifer.

ok back to the issue...no, i wouldnt spose yer buds would understand you playin Albert K. but if they dig Iggy PoP and you play them a little Charley Patton they will likly go ...."POOP I want some o' dat"

And finally,
